Author NANCY ALLEN will sign and speak at the Blackey Public Library on March 18 at 6:00 PM . Among her books are: Once Upon a Dime, On the Banks of the Amazon, Whose Noise is This, Whose Food is This and Whose House is This? Her presentation is a part of the WRITE Project.
Two more of her books will hit the shelves soon: Trailblazer:The life of Daniel Boone and On the Banks of the Mississippi.

NATIONAL
LIBRARY WEEK will be observed in all of the Letcher County Public
Libraries on April 10-15. National Library Week is sponsored by the American
Library Association across the country in April. It is a time to celebrate
the contribution of our nation's libraries and to promote library use
and support. We will have open houses on the following dates:
April 11, 2005 : Blackey Public Library
April 12, 2005 : Harry M; Caudill Memorial Library
April 13, 2005 : Lillian Webb Memorial Library
April 14, 2005 : Jenkins Public Library
Bookmobile will register borrowers at the Walmart parking lot on April 14-15.
We invite all to come and visit the libraries to browse and check out our on line catalog. We will instruct users on how to access our collection more effectively and efficiently and will issue new borrowers cards. There will be prizes awarded throughout the day in every library and refreshments will be served.

WRITE (Writing, Reading Instructs Teens and Entertains) Workshop is seeking "budding" writers. Be sure to register today to attend the workshop. The group meets once a month and the next meeting is scheduled on Friday April 15, 2005. Bruce Hopkins will read from his book, Spirits in the Field: An Appalachian Family History at 6:00pm. This project was made possible by a grant from LSTA and administered by KDLA.
AUTOMATION UPDATE: The automation project for Letcher County Public Library District is complete! Blackey Public Library, Lillian Webb Memorial Library Harry M. Caudill, and the Bookmobile's total collections are now on line.
The librarians have successfully completed their circulation training with Mason Norland, specialist from the TLC. Pictured above are: Tommy Combs, Bookmobile librarian, Patricia Brashear, Margaret Looney and Susan Adams.
Relay
for Life: The Library staff will join the Relay for Life scheduled
on May 13, 2005. The annual walk is to raise awareness and money for
the benefit of the American Cancer Society. Any one who wishes to join
or contribute to this worthy cause is encouraged to call the library.
Donate $1 to the American Cancer Society and win a Thomas Kincaid painting.
